Sergeant First Class Gary L. Poirier, 70, of Cadiz

Funeral services for 70-year-old retired Sergeant First Class Gary L. Poirier, of Cadiz, will be noon Friday, February 2, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hopkinsville.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

Visitation will be after 4 PM Thursday, February 1, at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Survivors include:
Wife of 49 years, Jeanne Davis Poirier, of Cadiz;
Son, Gary Russell Poirier (Dannie), of Alabaster, Alabama;
Daughter, Nicol Calhoun, of Cadiz;
Two sisters, Ann Sithan, of Millville, New Jersey, and Donna Millard (Bill), of Leesburg, New Jersey;
Three brothers, Aurel Leo Poirier, Jr. (Barbara), of Millville, New Jersey, Robert Robichaud (Janeen), of Boones Mill, Virginia, and Ricky Robichaud (Lisa), of Vineland, New Jersey;
Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He died at 9:43 AM, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his home in Cadiz.

He was born March 6, 1953, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of late Aurel Leo Poirier and Ida Warren Robichaud.

He was inducted into the United States Army in 1973 and served as an aircraft mechanic and repairman. He received numerous medals and awards during his career, retiring with 22 years of meritorious service.

After his military service, he worked an additional 19 years as a helicopter mechanic at DynCorp International before retiring again to enjoy the finer things in life.

Fishing, camping, woodworking, and feeding the birds that would gather at his feeders were among his favorite past times, as well as vacationing with his family.
