Hoptown Mural Start Of New Downtown Image

Nashville has angel wings, Austin has a postcard, and now Hopkinsville has a mosaic painted by a group of young artists.

The Hoptown mural, painted as part of the Pennyroyal Arts Council’s Summer Camp, was officially unveiled Friday to a crowd of family and community members.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says the city supports the project and others like it that will bring people downtown.

The Camp was led by Artist Jennifer Bowman, who says she wasn’t sure she wanted to lead an art summer camp. But the idea of a project that allowed her to encourage young artists, well, that was a different story.

Bowman adds she enjoyed seeing the teens grow and work together over the course of the week.

Camper and Hopkinsville High School Junior, Eva Blankenberger summed up the experience.

Prim says they partnered with Sherwin Williams for the project supplies.

While the first official Instagram selfies under the hashtag belong to the artists, it is only a matter of time before everyone else joins in the fun. When you stop by for your picture with the mural, make sure you share the hashtag on Social Media, #PACImural2021.

Joining Blankenberger on the project were Madison Campbell, Skylar Cantrell, Angel Cowell, Trinitee Dillard, Alize Farris, Addelyn Keeling, Alyssa Kline, Keisha Lyon, Lizzy Stout, Jennie Watts, and Charley Rose Westerfield.
