Judge Declines to Sign Order Monday to Dismiss Forgery Charge Against Councilwoman

A Christian Circuit Court judge continued a hearing scheduled Monday morning for a Hopkinsville City Councilwoman who is charged with forgery.

Councilwoman Kimberly McCarley was indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury on August 16, 2019, for second-degree forgery. She is accused of forging the name of a woman on a bank document without her permission on June 22, 2016.

According to court records, Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling presented an order to Judge John Atkins to dismiss the forgery charge, however, neither McCarley nor her attorney Ben Fletcher appeared for the hearing. Judge Atkins declined to sign the order until everyone could be in court in person to discuss it. He set another hearing for everyone to be in court at 8:30 a.m. on July 7th.

McCarley represents Ward 2 and has served on City Council since 2009.
