The Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for youth literacy.
On Thursday, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced the award of nearly $160,000 in youth literacy grants to Kentucky nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools. The funds are part of more than $4 million recently awarded across the country for recipients to use the funds to purchase books, technology, equipment or materials to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students.
In a written statement, Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, said investing in youth literacy is investing in our future. She stated that these funds aim to enhance programs that foster critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in students, helping them unlock their potential and achieve their dreams.
Since 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded $254 million to support literacy and education nonprofits organizations. Thursday’s grants add to the $10.6 million announced in May for adult, family, and summer literacy programs, marking a milestone of serving over 20 million individuals since its inception.
