Conlee Lindsey and the rest of Tuesday’s golfers at the Calvert City Country Club had to endure the elements, brutal pin placements, and differing paces of play during the Marshall County Invitational.

However, the University Heights Academy senior shot a 5-over-par 77 to win the event, starting her season with back-to-back top-three finishes.

The start of the event was delayed 30 minutes due to a rain storm that came into the Calvert City area as the boys were finishing their day and just sat in the area for nearly an hour. Lindsey and the other golfers took to the course with no chance for practice before the round.

She found her consistency about four holes in and hovered around par for the round until a pair of bogeys ended her day. It was still enough for a one-shot win over Mayfield’s Avery Sullivan and two shots better than Marshall County’s Cecelia Ray and Murray’s Macy Saylor.

The win was the third invitational title for Lindsey and her first outside of Christian County. She is also the defending All A Classic region winner.

Allie Sandifer continued her good start to the season with a round of 90, good for 19th place. Campbell Lindsey shot a 100 and Caroline Tucker added a 128.

As a team, UHA totaled 395 points to finish in sixth place. Marshall County took the team title with a score of 329.

UHA will return to action Wednesday at the Trigg County Invitational at Boots Randolph Golf Course at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.
