MSG Donald Wayne Joiner (RET), age 83, of Sparta, TN, formerly of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at his residence in Sparta, TN, of natural causes surrounded by family and loved ones. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Brother Darrell Crawford officiating and burial to follow in Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery-West. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
He was born to the late William T. and Gladys Powell Joiner in Hopkinsville, KY on March 20, 1941. He raised 4 children and was lovingly known as Gramps to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His sense of humor was with him to the end. His favorite thing to say to each child and his grandchildren was “Is Charlie home” as he tickled their knee and made them each laugh.
Donald enlisted in the US Army on August 27, 1963, and served his country with Duty, Honor, and Courage till his retirement date of September 1, 1988. During his military service, he was decorated with the following: National Defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal First Class, US Army Recruiters Badge with 2 Gold Sapphire Achievement Stars, Republic of Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Overseas Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Marksman Qualification Badge (Rifle M-16). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Wayne Creed in 2016.

Joiner; his children, Teresa (Ronnie) Cathcart, Hopkinsville, KY, Cathy (Kevin) Cravens, Cadiz, KY, James (Julie) Bush, Sparta, TN, Shannon (Gerald) Hartfield, Lumberton, MS, Donna (Tandy) Clemons, Mannford, OK; grandchildren, Jeremy Yelton, Michaela Creed, Taylor Creed, Justin (Katie) Bush, Brooke Bush, Kalie (Chris) Hudson, Haven (Kannon) Green, Chris Clemons, his great Grandchildren, Maleigha Creed, Levi Wayne Creed, Kasen Futrell, Eleanor Wayne Alonso, Lynnox Marks, John Tucker Hudson, Hawkins Hudson, Wilder Hudson, Haven Bush, Hazelyn Bush, Kendall Clemons, Skylar Clemons; his sister, Peggy Mitchell, Hopkinsville, KY; his nephew: Johnnie Edwards, Hopkinsville, KY, and his niece Janice Whitney, Hopkinsville, KY
