For months, officials from Tennessee and Kentucky have been discussing the logjam of traffic at the state line between Hopkinsville and Clarksville.

At 6:46 PM Friday, officials from the Tennessee Department of Transportation reported a traffic crash near the 5 mile marker in the Volunteer State, one that has created a traffic backup for both eastbound and westbound traffic on I-24.

This backup impacts travelers heading from Kentucky toward Nashville.

Eastbound traffic is backed up to near the KY-TN state line in Christian County. There is a corresponding backup of less magnitude along the westbound lane from Nashville into Kentucky.

Duration is unknown at this time.

Motorists may avoid the backup and associated delays by diverting to U.S. 41-A North at Exit 86 to connect with U.S. 41 South at Hopkinsville into Tennessee.

Another option would be to take U.S. 41-A South at the Ft. Campbell Exit to follow it around Clarksville and on toward Nashville.
