Betty Wakefield, 88, of Houston, Texas

Betty Y. Wakefield, age 88, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at her home of natural causes. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at 2:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Mrs. Wakefield was born in Fruit Hill, KY on February 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Ellis Lee and Virginia Lancaster Young. She graduated from Lacy High School in 1954. Betty was employed by Bell Telephone for 33 years beginning her career in Hopkinsville, KY, and transferring to Houston, Texas in April 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston Texas and was attending Westway Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. Betty was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Pioneers. She enjoyed cooking; cruises; bus trips; playing scrabble; and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Lord, Dana (Gene) Foote, and Dianne Dixon; her siblings: Juanita Durham of Paducah, Ky; Billy (Janie) Young of Hopkinsville, Ky; Nelda Gamble of Hopkinsville, Ky; Janice (Gary) Parker of Wisconsin; Carolyn Gamble of Hopkinsville, Ky; James (Ann) Young of Hopkinsville, Ky; and Sharon Oliphant of Ft. Myers, Florida; her grandchildren, Nikki (Michael) Franks of Friendswood, Texas; Katie Foote of Gonzales, Texas; Jared (Ceci Batres) Foote of Conroe, Texas; Kristi Lord and Kenny (Neriza) Lord of Maryland; her great-grandchildren, Peyton and Reagan Franks; Val Foote; Zane and Zyler Batres; Jaidenne and Khenna Nelson; Nathan and Kassidy Lord. Great-great grandchild Ezrah Nelson.

A special thanks to Dr. Muffaddal Morkas, MD (Texas Oncology); Anatoli Krasko, MD (Memorial Pulmonology); and Dr. Amit Patel, DO (Memorial Cardiology) for their compassion and efforts to extend the quality of life for our mother, Betty.
