Smith Newton, 72, of Hopkinsville

Smith Edwin Newton, age 72, of Hopkinsville, KY passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his home. The family has chosen cremation with a memorial service on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Mr. Newton was born on May 28, 1951, in Hopkinsville, KY the son of the late Clarence Jr. and Margie Robertson Newton. Smith was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and enjoyed leading bible studies at Coffee Connection.  Growing up Smith liked to show cattle for the 4-H and FFA clubs that he was a member of, winning him many awards. He was the first of his immediate family to graduate with a bachelor degree in business from the University of Kentucky. He was also a part of the SAE fraternity during his time there. Smith had a career as a real estate agent in the area of Nashville for over 30 years before his retirement. His fondest memories in life were his years working and helping his dad with the family seed business and cattle farm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Jo Ford Newton; and his second wife, Janice Kay Birdsong Newton in 2002.

Survivors include his daughters, Jessica Newton (Charley Lattus) of Ashland City, TN, and Cali Marhevka (Nicholas) of Fort Drum, NY; his sister, Connie Newton Hampton (Dwight) of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren, Nicholas Andrew Marhevka, Jr., and Hadley Grace Marhevka.
