Cadiz City Council quickly convened in special session Tuesday night — unanimously approving the second reading of the 5% annual ordinance permanently raising local water and sewer rates in perpetuity, and until further notice.

City Clerk Connie Allen affirmed the language.

For residents, Allen said they would start seeing a change in their bill at the start of May, in response to April actually seeing the increase.

All water bills issued in Cadiz are a month in the rear, and she noted that the average water bill of $56.51 will see a $2.20 jump.

She also noted most of the city’s residents actually pay a minimum water bill, and rarely do they see an extended increase in usage.
