Man Charged With Assaulting Woman Then Fleeing From Law Enforcement

A Hopkinsville man was charged after he allegedly assaulted a woman and then led law enforcement on a pursuit Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to Recovery Drive after 32-year-old Tyler Smith punched a woman in the head several times and would not let her leave the bedroom.

He reportedly took her purse and then fled before police arrived. Police say they located Smith’s vehicle on East 7th Street and he fled, law enforcement was able to box his vehicle in and slow him down before his vehicle ran into a ditch on Butler Road.

He reportedly then fled on foot but was located by a law enforcement K9 and had to be taken to the hospital for a dog bite.

He is lodged at the Christian County Jail on charges of speeding, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree robbery, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, receiving stolen property, possession of meth, two counts of fleeing or evading police, and several traffic violations.
