Mary C. (Jennie) Whitfield, age 98, of Hopkinsville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at Tennova Hospital in Clarksville, Tenn. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mrs. Whitfield was born on December 6, 1925, in Trigg County, the daughter of the late Richard Ernest and Susie Fort Cunningham. She was a payroll administrator for many years at the Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville and was a lifelong resident of Madisonville and Hopkinsville. Jennie was an active member of St. Johns Methodist Church in Hopkinsville and was always interested in political developments at the local, state, and national levels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-one years, E.O. Whitfield; her brothers, Gary, Charles, Bill, and Bobby Ray Cunningham; and her sister, Susan Primm.
Survivors include her son, Ed Whitfield, and his wife, Connie of Washington, DC; her sister, Joyce Johnson of Pembroke, KY; her granddaughter, her granddaughter, Kate Wilson and her husband, George of Duluth, GA; her great-granddaughter, Madison Cliff and her husband Ryan of John’s Creek, GA; and her great-grandson, Brady Wilson, a student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
