Hopkinsville Parks and Rec Receives Statewide Award

The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department received two awards of recognition from the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society during its annual conference held recently.

The Parks and Rec department received two awards received for Outstanding Department – Class III, and Outstanding Program – Class III.

The award for Outstanding Department – Class III recognizes an outstanding Kentucky Recreation Department that has contributed to the quality of life in its community through programming, facilities, and community engagement. The Class III designation is in recognition of the number of employees in the department.

Hopkinsville’s Parks and Recreation Department is made up of thirteen full-time employees who produce over 100 events and programs each year. This is the fourth year this department has received this award.

The award for Outstanding Program – Class III is in recognition of the 7th Annual Summer Salute Festival for offering a unique enhancement to the quality of life in the field of recreation and leisure service within a community. Toby Hudson, parks and rec superintendent, said the collaboration and partnership between numerous local government departments, agencies, and thirty corporate and local sponsors, helped provide world-class entertainment and opportunities for the community of Hopkinsville.
