Watkins Appointed, Early Consolidation Off Table As CCPS Looks Forward

Following an hour of executive session Monday afternoon, the Christian County Public Schools Board of Education opted to unanimously appoint Ambrea Watkins for the vacant 2nd District seat — one left open following the resignation of Tiffany Mumford-Brame.

A graduate of Christian County High School, Watkins is the owner/operator of the in-home Angels Touch LLC Beauty Salon. According to social media, she celebrated its third anniversary this past July.

Watkins was a candidate alongside Virginia Erxleben and Marsha Garnett, and all three candidates met the qualifications to fill the seat as described by the Kentucky Department of Education.

She will officially be sworn in at this Thursday’s regularly-scheduled meeting alongside Rebecca Pepper, who was appointed to fill the resignation of Michael Walker, and was then selected by voters last week to finish the remainder of the unexpired term.

The appointment of Watkins isn’t the only Monday news stemming from the CCPS campus.

District officials publicly announced that they will not be proceeding with early consolidation of its programming — both student and athletic — and the joining of teams, clubs and other unified fronts won’t occur until the new school is move-in ready.

According to Superintendent Chris Bentzel, the district is instead planning to shift its focus toward cultivating excitement and unity, while “prioritizing students through enriched learning opportunities and enhanced extra-curricular and athletic advancements.”

Located on Ft. Campbell Boulevard and Lovers Lane, the new building remains scheduled to open in the fall of 2026. Bentzel added this announcement should “bring clarity” to families about the direction of the district.

Kerry Stovall, CCPS district activities director, doubled down on this effort in a video to the public, and urged more positive news was on the way.

Stovall said the district remains excited about Phase II, which will include the development of athletic facilities for all sports.
