A sixth-grade student at South Christian Elementary School, Zachary Boyd has often been described as humorous, intelligent, artistic, strong and brave.
October 24, he turned 12 years old.
Officials, however, note he’s in the fight of his life.
It’s been well-documented, but for the last 20 months, he’s been battling osteosarcoma — a rare bone cancer.
During this time, he’s faced six surgeries, 10 different chemotherapy drugs, more than 100 nights in hospitals, experienced radiation treatment — and currently takes more than 20 pills a day aside from treatment and pain medications.
This past August, Zachary’s family received difficult news: his cancer has metastasized, and only a few short months remain.
With November serving as a “Month of Giving,” officials with the Christian County Public Schools district are seeking to bring awareness to his condition, while providing support to both he and his family.
As such, gift cards are being collected by the district, and given to the family to help ease a burden they will continue to face.
Those wishing to donate a gift card can drop them off at the CCPS Central Office located at 200 Glass Avenue.
Cash and checks cannot be accepted.

Diagnosed with cancer early last year, he was tabbed by Hopkinsville officials to light the Hopkinsville Community Christmas Tree in December 2022.
