Saturday is typically the busiest day of every Ham Festival, and this year is no different.

Check in for the anticipated Country Ham Show begins at 7:30 AM, as does preparation for the “World’s Largest” country ham and biscuit — which goes on sale to the public at 11:30 AM, and its proceeds pivoted to Helping Hands.

“Money in the Haystack” is back again, and is slated for a 10 AM start at West Cadiz Park.

And, of course, 10 AM is the magic hour, because that’s when the Great American Shows Carnival, Two Sisters Traveling Petting Zoo, the Trigg County Quilter’s Guild Show, and the weekend opening ceremonies begin.

Live music sponsored by Wabash kicks off at 10:30 AM with west Kentucky’s popular alternative rock band “King Kaiju” opening up tunes at the Renaissance Stage. Caleb Lake follows from 1-3 PM, and the evening rolls with Tyson Leamon from 5:30-7:30 PM and Legacy from 8-10 PM.

Two of the newest events should draw considerable attention.

Around 11:30 AM, several local celebrities and noted dignitaries will be pushing through 10-minutes of a ham-and-biscuit eating contest at the Trigg County Justice Center. Kerry Fowler, of Little River Ice, tells the News Edge more than $2,600 has already been raised for local charities, and the winner gets to choose the spoiler.

Then, around 12:30 PM, a Mullet & Beard contest will take place at the Renaissance Stage. Sponsored by Roeder Auctions, winners will receive cash prizes for their best facial fix, or their cool Kentucky waterfall.

If you can’t make out to the Trigg County Country Ham Festival, you can listen to live coverage through 5:00 Friday afternoon and beginning at 9:00 Saturday morning on 106.5 WKDZ-FM and online at wkdzradio.com.
