Beautiful weather on Saturday, October 7 helped bring in the crowd for the West KY Antique Power Association’s annual Hal Fennell Memorial Plow Day at Garnett Farms.

This event was open to any tractors and equipment that was dated at 1975 or older. Starting at 9:30, many owners arrived early and ready to plow. Plow Day Committee Chairman Charles Garnett says at least 75 antique tractors were brought to Garnett Farms off of John Rives Road Spur with a number of spectators ready to watch them plow! Garnett says more than 200 acres were plowed during Saturday’s event. Garnett says Saturday’s Plow Day had the largest turnout in several years.

There were many different classic tractors that participated in this event, including a rare-to-see White tractor! Although, this wasn’t the only neat or interesting tractor seen during plow day. Along with the White tractor there was a collection of Oliver tractors. Other tractors seen were International, John Deere, Alis-Chalmers, Ford, Case, and Farmall. The tractors of all sizes and horsepower ranged in age from the early 70’s to the late 30’s and everything in between. They were pulling plows from as small as a two bottom to six or eight bottoms.

Plow Day is named after former president Hal Fennell who had a real passion for antique tractors and the plow day event. Plow day is held each year in Christian or Trigg County to celebrate the way farming used to take place before modern practices such as no-till and strip-till.
