Hopkinsville Councilman Handy Arrested On Suspected DUI

Officials with the City of Hopkinsville have announced that, early Saturday morning, they learned that Ward 12 City Councilman Matthew Handy was involved in a single-vehicle accident and arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office — on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) while returning home from Clarksville.

Handy was reportedly alone and uninjured, and no one else was involved in the accident.

The city is currently investigating the matter further, and will be working under the consultation of the city attorney to determine next steps.

Mayor J.R. Knight assures the public that transparency and accountability will guide the city’s response.

He said they hold public officials “to a high standard of conduct,” and that this incident is “deeply concerning.”

Knight also said the safety and well-being of local residents is “paramount,” and such behavior “will not be tolerated.” Furthermore, Knight added they want to make sure Handy receives the help and treatment he needs, and will be assisting to ensure he does.
