Hopkinsville Man Facing Drug Charges After Pursuit

A Hopkinsville man was charged after a traffic stop on Coleman Street in Hopkinsville Tuesday night.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop 30-year-old Devaunte Hampton for not using a turn signal and he slowed down then turned onto 13th Street before fleeing on foot. After a search of the car, M30 pills, cocaine, Hampton’s driver’s license, Social Security card, and a phone were reportedly found.

Police say after locating Hampton he claimed he had been drinking and fell asleep and woke up to the car missing.

He was arrested and charged with failure to or improper signal, second-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree fleeing or evading police, no registration plates, possession of cocaine, and trafficking fentanyl.
