Henry Malone, 97, of Guthrie

The Cook-Webb Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. Henry Camp Malone.

Mr. Henry Camp Malone, age 97, of Guthrie, passed away on Friday, July 28th at Ahava Healthcare in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Henry was born November 21, 1925, in Madisonville, Kentucky. He was the only child born to John Thomas and Anna Lee Camp Malone.

Henry spent the majority of his life in Guthrie, Kentucky. He graduated from Guthrie High School in 1943 and served in the Naval Amphibious Forces from 1944-1946. Prior to entering the Navy, he attended Western Kentucky University. Upon discharge from the service, he attended Austin Peay State College and received his B.S. degree. He earned his M.A. degree from George Peabody College in 1951 and continued postgraduate work there.

In 1952, Henry married Jean Harper Bland and they celebrated their 71st anniversary on June 21st.

Henry was a career educator. He taught at Lewis County High School in Hohenwald, Tennessee, from 1949-1951. He was principal of Guthrie High School from 1951-1958 and Superintendent of Todd County Kentucky Schools from 1958-1965. He joined the Austin Peay State University staff in 1965 and was the Director of Alumni Affairs for 15 years. For the remainder of his career, he served as Coordinator of Public Service in the College of Education. Upon retirement, he was employed by Elkton Bank and Trust Company, served as vice-chairman of the Todd County Housing Authority for 15 years, and served on the Todd County Board of Education for 15 years. He was a longtime member of the Guthrie Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in other capacities. Henry’s life was one of service to his God, his family, his country, and his community.

He was survived by his wife, Jean Bland Malone until she passed away on July 31st. He is survived by his two children, Peggy Susan Tolbert (Bill) of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Henry Camp Malone II (Mary Wood) of Palmyra, Tennessee; one grandson, Jason Kyle Tolbert (Rachel) and one great-granddaughter, Aurora June Tolbert.

Visitation with the Malone family will be on Thursday, August 3rd from 10:00 until funeral service time at 1:00 at the Guthrie Baptist Church with Reverend Kimbrough Simmons and Reverend Dave Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Guthrie.
