Man Charged With DUI And Trafficking Drugs With A Child In The Vehicle

A Hopkinsville man was charged with DUI and trafficking drugs with a child in the car that was not properly restrained Saturday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they stopped 25-year-old Deshawn Hopper for swerving all over the roadway on South Virginia Street and during the stop officers could see a tequila bottle in the front console.

In the backseat, a child was reportedly being held by 54-year-old Vanessa Blane instead of being put in a car seat.

Police say Hopper admitted to having marijuana in his pocket and after a search of the vehicle 21 pills were found in a child’s backpack and two guns were found in a  purse one that was reported stolen in Clarksville.

Hopper reportedly told police he had some Percocets in the car.

Hopper was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (drug unspecified), failure to use a child restraint device in a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Blane was also arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, alcohol intoxication in a public place, and first-degree wanton endangerment.
