A natural gas pipeline project announced last year by Governor Andy Beshear that will run through five western Kentucky counties is a step closer to getting the funding needed.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield presented a memorandum of agreement to his magistrates Friday morning to begin the process of receiving the second half of $30 million in funding that was announced by Governor Beshear in September 2022.
The memorandum was unanimously approved and will see the other $15 million coming to the project which has a total cost of around $115 million. The pipeline will begin around the Lamasco area of Lyon County and connect to an ANR Pipeline. It will follow along Interstate 24 to the state line, never entering Tennessee, and follow along U.S. Highway 79 north of Guthrie, just shy of Novelis.
The pipeline is set to benefit southern portions of Lyon and Caldwell counties, as well as the Cadiz Industrial Park, the Hopkinsville Industrial Park, and Commerce Park II/TVA Megasite in Christian County. Cities to benefit from the pipeline include Oak Grove, Guthrie, Trenton, and Fort Campbell.
Judge-Executive Mansfield told Your News Edge, this project has been in the works for quite some time.
The next $15 million payment for the project is expected in the coming weeks.
Mansfield added the project has already started, with land right-of-way purchases underway.
Around eighty percent of the project’s right-of-way purchases have been made. The installation of the pipeline could begin around this time in 2024.
