Area Drought And Fire Risk Diminished

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Drought Map as of Tuesday morning, July 11, 2023, at 8:00 AM

Saturday’s rainfall may have helped with the region’s drought conditions, but for some in western Kentucky, the risk of fire still exists.

Weather Edge forecaster David Powell said the risk continues in areas that have not received much rain in the last month.

Powell added that drought conditions are starting to improve.

Powell said the drought conditions we have experienced started in May. Weather conditions have been thoroughly monitored over the last 129 years, and Trigg County had its 34th dryest May on record. Christian County experienced its 54th dryest May and Lyon County had its 27th dryest May, being about two inches below normal for the month.

Daily chances for rainfall beginning Wednesday, as heat and humidity build back into the region will only help things move forward.
