EPA Monitors Air Quality Due To Large Trash Fire

Firefighters worked for several hours Saturday to extinguish a large trash fire at the Hopkinsville Landfill on Mount Zoar-Latham Road. Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Payton Rogers says The Environmental Protection Agency came to the scene to help monitor air quality.

Rogers says the fire was quickly confined to an area away from all structures.

Hopkinsville Fire Department was assisted by Highland, Westside, and Crofton fire departments.

Firefighters assisted employees in covering the fire with dirt Rogers says adding the fire was fully covered Saturday afternoon.

Rogers says they would like to thank the volunteer fire departments for their help and quick response.
