USDA Rural Water Grants Open For Christian County

Governor Andy Beshear and Kentucky’s USDA Rural Development Director Thomas Carew announced Thursday that millions in funding water infrastructure repairs has been made available to a number of communities that earned disaster declarations in 2022.

This includes Christian County, alongside many of eastern Kentucky’s counties — which experienced widespread, record flooding in the mountains and valleys.

These funds, Beshear said, can be used to not only repair infrastructure damage, but also help reduce long-term risks from future weather events.

The applications opened Thursday, and will remain so for the next 60 days online at rd.usda.gov.

Carew said there’s no match required, no maximum amount, a maximum population of the community impacted set at 35,000, and that this is just another way the USDA and its rural development can help municipalities get back on track.

Those eligible to apply include rural public bodies and non-profit organizations.
