Officials with the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board announced Friday that Circle T Ranch Summer Horse Camp, located in Christian County and Cerulean, has qualified for a grant worth up to $51,500 in multi-county funds — all of which can be used to support camp restoration following COVID-19.
Lisa Bush, with the camp and also Trigg County Schools, said their plan is to accept $12,000 in state funds with a $12,000 match from Christian County — pushing $24,000 toward needed improvements and renovation.
Bush noted that Circle T could’ve besought other surrounding counties, and Christian County, for more matching funds.
However, she said other grant funds should be spread to other local and regional farms — all of which are in need following a global pandemic and severe weather in west Kentucky.
Barns, bunkhouses and fencing make up a large, important part of the facility and its efforts — which each summer averages at least 200 campers.
The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved more than $4.3 million in agricultural diversification and rural development projects during Friday’s monthly board meeting.
Dr. Ryan Quarles, Kentucky’s Agriculture Commissioner, said the board’s focus on a variety of projects and programs “helps encourage diversity among our agriculture community and builds more farming and agricultural capabilities across the Commonwealth.”
