Princeton native Jody Cash was one of seven Kentucky law enforcement officers honored last week by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation at a ceremony in Richmond.
Governor Andy Behshear said the seven officers lost knew of the sacrifices that the job entailed and served their communities and demonstrated courage in doing their jobs.
Cash, a former police officer in Princeton and at Murray State University, was a chief deputy with the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office when he was shot and killed on May 16, 2022 by a prisoner who was carrying a concealed gun.
Four of the seven officers honored at this year’s memorial service were shot and killed in the line of duty. A fifth died when his cruiser was struck by a drunk driver.
The law enforcement memorial is located on the grounds of the Department of Criminal Justice Training and police academy. The monument, which was completed in 2000, holds the names of 579 men and women who have died in the line of duty since 1845.
