Hopkinsville Man Charged With Assaulting His Girlfriend

A Hopkinsville man was charged after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend on Hazel Street in Hopkinsville Monday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 35-year-old Donald Howard and his girlfriend got into a fight over him drinking too much and she left and went to be with family members.

When she returned they reportedly started to fight again and he punched her in the face several times and then choked her to the point she thought she was going to pass out.

Police say she had a swollen and bruised right eye and what appeared to be fingertip marks on the side of her neck.

Howard was located at the apartment on Hazel Street and reportedly had slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and several empty beer cans were found inside the apartment.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. He was also found to have active warrants for probation violation and contempt of court.
