Cadiz Man Sentenced On Federal Weapons Charge

Chanz Outing

A Trigg County man was sentenced to three years and four months in federal prison for possessing a firearm after having been previously convicted of a felony.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Chanz Outing, of Cadiz, possessed a shotgun having a barrel length of less than 18 inches that was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. Outing was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he had previously been convicted of felony offenses.

On October 15, 2002, in Trigg Circuit Court, he was convicted of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine). On January 15, 2009, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, Paducah Division, Outing was convicted of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and aiding and abetting the distribution of marijuana.

In addition to his over three years in federal prison, Outing will also serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF Louisville Field Division made the announcement.

The case was investigated by the ATF Bowling Green Resident Agency and the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus, of the U.S. Attorney’s Paducah Branch Office, prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
