Woman Claims To Be Sister During Traffic Stop

A Hopkinsville woman was charged with identity theft after a traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard Monday night.

Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a vehicle for the registration plate not being illuminated and could smell marijuana during the traffic stop. During the stop, the owner of the vehicle 24-year-old Ja’Asia Kates reportedly used her sister’s identifying information and was found to be hiding marijuana in her hair.

She was arrested and charged with rear license plate not illuminated, no registration plates, failure to produce an insurance card, giving officers false identifying information, possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence, and theft of identity. Kates was also found to have a warrant for failure to appear.
