Man Rushed To Hospital With Gunshot Wound

A man was found to have a gunshot wound after running from police during a traffic stop in Hopkinsville Saturday night.

Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a car on Short 19th Street and the driver got out and fled on foot.

While officers were pursuing him on foot they reportedly heard a shot fired and took cover.

Police say the man was located and had a gunshot wound to his arm and was rushed to the hospital by law enforcement.

He reportedly told police someone shot him but later he was found to have shot himself while jumping a fence.

Police say a 9 mm handgun along with a spent shell casing were found in the area.

Short 19th Street and South Virginia Street at East 18th Street were temporarily blocked as law enforcement investigated the shooting.

The man has not been arrested but the report list possible charges of second-degree fleeing or evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, rear license plate not illuminated, falsely reporting an incident, and tampering with physical evidence.
