Hams For Heroes Event Next Thursday

L to R: Katie Marcoux, Jerry Gilliam, J.R. Knight, and Taylor Hayes

The Christian County Chamber Military Affairs Committee, along with the governments of the cities of Oak Grove and Hopkinsville and the counties of Christian and Trigg are coming together to help out military families next week. Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight recently made the comment about needing to host an activity each quarter to help out the military community.

The Ham for Heroes event on Thursday, April 6th, will serve as the first of such events. The hams will be handed out beginning at 10:00 AM.

Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam stressed the importance of the Fort Campbell community.

Around 500 hams, from Hampton Meats in Hopkinsville, will be handed out at the Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel Equestrian Center, just off Thompsonville Lane.

Katie Marcoux, Director of Marketing for the facility, said they jumped on the opportunity, as soon as she learned about it.

Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Taylor Hayes said the project is truly a collaborative effort.

Gilliam added they are focusing on handing out the hams to those who are E5 ranking or below.
