The Trigg County Longspurs Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation honored a special veteran and made donations to several youth organizations during the annual dinner Saturday, March 18, at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

Longspurs Chapter member J. L. Hendricks presented the special veteran award to First Sergeant Shawn Williams for his service to our country.

Ben Harper presented $500 scholarships to high school seniors Sam Smith and Emma West. The chapter made $100 donations to Trigg County FFA, 4-H shooting sports, the Trigg County Arrowcat archery program, and the Trigg County Fishing team.

U.S. Forest Service Biologist Elizabeth Raikes says their partnership with the Trigg County chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation results in quite a bit of habitat work in Land Between the Lakes.

Harper says they have some new projects planned for the coming year at Land Between the Lakes.

Harold Knight and David Hale were among the founders of the Trigg County Longspurs Chapter, with Knight saying they had some lofty goals when they formed the local organization 27 years ago.

Knight says their efforts were heavily supported by the outdoor community.

Organization members conducted a variety of raffles, contests, a silent auction, and a live auction during the annual dinner at the Trigg County Recreation Complex Convention Center Saturday night. The dinner was catered by the Cadiz Restaurant.
