Shouse Seeking Specific File For Grimes As Trial Nears

As the transition from Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling to Stephanie Bolen continues, so, too, does that persist with ongoing litigation.

During a Wednesday pre-trial conference in Christian County Circuit Court for alleged assailant Leon Grimes, defense attorney Ted Shouse notified Judge Andrew Self that there was a particular file on his client he needed to see before a scheduled trial begins April 3.

Shouse said he knew certain questions couldn’t be answered right away Wednesday afternoon, but he hoped to get answers soon.

Shouse noted he has an appointment with Bolen to review those documents, scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, and asked Self for two weeks continuance before moving further.

Self obliged, and Grimes is due back in court at 1 PM, March 29.

Having already seen his trial date moved more than once, Grimes is charged with murder in connection to the death of 28-year-old Calvin Buckner.

Hopkinsville Police have reported that Grimes shot Buckner in the chest during a July 4, 2021, party. The victim was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Grimes remains incarcerated in the Christian County Jail.
