Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman notified city officials Wednesday that he will be retiring from his position on September 1.
Currently in his eighth year leading an award-winning team, Brockman has been honored as the state’s “Department of the Year” by the Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society (KRPS) three times during his tenure. He was also selected KRPS Professional of the Year in 2018 and the Kentucky League of Cities Employee of the Year in 2022.

City of Hopkinsville. I cannot thank him enough for his contribution to our community.”
Under Brockman’s leadership, the department introduced a number of impactful community events, including the award-winning Summer Salute Festival, Touch-A-Truck, Sounds@Six, and the Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K.
The Parks and Recreation team was also tasked with the overall responsibility for the city’s planning and execution of the 2017 Great American Eclipse activities.
In addition, the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex Hopkinsville opened in 2019 operating under Parks and Recreation.
In a statement from Brockman, he said it’s “been an honor” to serve his amazing team at Parks & Recreation, and he noted that “the spirit of collaboration in [Hopkinsville and Christian County] are what makes so many things possible.”
