A Hopkinsville man was charged with assault after he allegedly spit on an officer Tuesday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say they were called to West 7th Street for someone laying on the ground and found 35-year-old Miles Smith who allegedly had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. After being arrested for public intoxication, police say he refused to get out of the officer’s vehicle at the jail and then spit on him.
Smith is charged with third-degree assault of a police officer and public intoxication.
