The Christian County Court Appointed Special Advocates program will have a new home after action taken by magistrates during Tuesday’s meeting.
CASA will now take over a portion of the former Christian County Judge-Executive office space on Weber Street.
Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam said the space opened up since his office has moved into the former sheriff’s office building.
Magistrates approved an amended lease agreement, where the county made sure to mention they would pay for all utilities for the organization, except for phone and internet services. Other portions of the building will be used by Christian County Clerk Melinda Humphries. The agreement will be reviewed annually.
Additionally, a resolution honoring former magistrate Kenneth Bates was approved. Christian County Attorney Lincoln Foster presented the resolution to the court.
Bates passed away on Tuesday, February 14, following a brief illness. He served one term as a magistrate but was most known as an area radio personality, hosting gospel programs on Missionary Radio and WHOP.
Also during the meeting, magistrates went into a closed session pursuant to KRS 61.180, regarding business matters involving South West Kentucky Economic Development Council Executive Director Carter Hendricks. No action was taken following that session.
