Hopkinsville Man Faces More Theft Charges

An investigation into one stolen trailer led to a Hopkinsville man being charged in connection to more stolen trailers Thursday morning.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say in their investigation the owner of the trailer found it posted on Facebook for sale and set up a time to meet the person selling the trailer in Oak Grove at Walmart.

Law enforcement reportedly waited on Sigler Drive Wednesday and when the suspect 41-year-old Ryan Barnett arrived he was taken into custody and found to have a gun in his waistband along with meth and a second gun in his truck.

After being arrested he was interviewed by the Hopkinsville Police Thursday and he allegedly made incriminating statements connecting him to the theft of another trailer.

Hopkinsville Police say he cut the lock off of a trailer valued at $4,000 and removed the VIN plate before he sold it to someone else for $1,800.

He was charged by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office with theft by deception, possession of meth, using restricted ammunition during a felony, and two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

After his interview with Hopkinsville Police, he was charged by them with third-degree criminal mischief, obscuring the identity of a machine, theft by deception, and theft by unlawful taking.

Guthrie Police say they also have charges on Barnett for theft by unlawful taking and third-degree criminal trespassing in connection to a trailer stolen on January 31st from North Ewing Street.
