Council Greenlights Demolition Of Two Downtown Structures

At a special called meeting Thursday night, Hopkinsville City Council approved an agreement for emergency demolition services of two buildings deemed “not safe for public occupancy” located downtown on South Main Street.

Fire Chief Steve Futrell confirmed the emergency demolition of 806 South Main Street, 808 South Main Street, and 810-812 South Main Street to ensure the protection of life citing the structures are beyond repair and people are continuing to enter the buildings.

Willen also summarized the proposed contract with East Construction, LLC in an amount of over $388,000 for the demolition services.

click to download audioThe city council unanimously approved the ordinance declaring an emergency to exist and the agreement for demolition services of the two buildings along with ratifying the mayor’s declaration of an emergency. With the unanimous vote, the ordinance becomes effective immediately and no second reading is required.
