A Nashville man arrested in Hopkinsville last year has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

39-year-old Larry Day is accused of possessing a 9mm pistol during a traffic stop on Woodmill Road last April. Hopkinsville Police said they stopped Day for having an improper turn signal and during the stop, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Day reportedly admitted to drugs being in the vehicle along with a firearm in the trunk that he claimed he was transporting to his dad.

After a search of the vehicle, police say cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, and a scale were found.

While waiting for his dad to pick up his vehicle, police say Day’s dad asked him on the phone why he had a gun and he stated “because it’s Hopkinsville and people are always shooting each other.”

The case was investigated by the ATF Paducah Field Office and the Hopkinsville Police Department.
