Structural Engineer To Assess L&N Depot

The L&N Depot recently caught regional attention, but the cost to fix it continues to climb. During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, City Administrative Officer Troy Body gave a brief update, promising more once a structural engineer had finished an assessment.

click to download audioSince that time there has been a fire in the building and the structure has sat empty. Body says CDS and the Local Development Corporation, LDC, have been working since last year to figure out how to fund fixes.

click to download audioBody says two million dollars could be used to do numerous things in the city, so they want to be good stewards of taxpayer funds. They expect a Structural Engineer to have more information to them by the end of the month. Meanwhile, Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin says payroll tax collection is above budgeted numbers for the first six months of the fiscal year.
