An explosion at a crude well in southern Muhlenberg County killed one person and sent another to the hospital in critical condition.
A spokesman with the Greenville Fire Department said the well was located in the 2300 block of Kentucky 853 about halfway between Kirkmansville and the Weir community. The fire was brought under control with the assistance of the Graham Fire Department and the Wendell Ford Regional Training Center Fire and Rescue Team with the road closed.
The Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Division of Air Quality, the EPA, and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet have been notified.
