Christian County resident Caleb Ballard has applied for the District Four Christian County School Board seat vacated by the resignation of Mike Walker.

The Christian County Board of Education voted Monday to accept Walker’s resignation and authorized Superintendent Chris Bentzel to begin advertising for applications from residents of the district who are interested in the post. Soon after the board meeting, Ballard stated on social media that he planned to seek the open spot.

In a statement released to the News Edge, Ballard says he is excited about the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

“On numerous occasions, I have been challenged to step up and become actively involved in our local government – this is my chance to do so, and I welcome the opportunity. I want to be a voice for the public on our local school board and work together to make sure our children can be successful in the real world,” he said in the statement.

Ballard went on to say that Walker was a much-needed voice on the school board and that his resignation was tough to hear. He then said this was his opportunity to make a difference.

Ballard says he would like everyone to be as informed as possible during this time. He has created a Facebook page to share information and connect with community members. It’s a grassroots effort to gather support and share information. Ballard adds his goal is to be an advocate for students, parents, and all employees of the district. He says he wants to be responsive to constituents and be diligent in the decision-making process.

Ballard has been an outspoken critic of the school board’s decision to combine Hopkinsville High and Christian County High into a single school.

The Christian County Board of Education is seeking applications to fill the vacant seat on the board. The new district 4 board member will serve until the November 2023 General Election.
