Illinois Men Charged After Attack On Hopkinsville Man

Nathaniel Clark

Two Illinois men have been charged after they reportedly assaulted a man during an attempted robbery at a Hopkinsville hotel Tuesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say 19-year-old Nathaniel Clark and 19-year-old Braxton Lidaywa assaulted 63-year-old Edward Breathitt and tried to take his car at a hotel on Richard Mills Drive.

During the attempted robbery, Lidaywa suffered a cut to his neck and was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Health for injuries.

Police say Lidaywa and Clark appeared to be under the influence of some kind of substance and Lidaywa asked officers what they would do if he took their gun and tried to kill himself.

Clark and Lidaywa were both charged with attempted second-degree robbery and public intoxication. Lidaywa was also charged with second-degree disorderly conduct.

Police say Breathitt was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.
