Trigg Citizen And Judge-Executive Address Facebook Antics Gone ‘Too Far’

For reasons that seem unclear, attendance has mysteriously and exponentially increased over the last year at the twice-a-month Trigg County Fiscal Court meetings.

And with this increased attendance, comes heightened emotions.

During Monday’s convening, a recently-arrived Trigg County resident — Higdon Brice Maddock — drew attention and great concern to a particular social media post that felt “threatening” to her.

It’s a picture of the back of her head at a previous fiscal court meeting, sitting next to Senior Citizens Director Cissy Lawrence. A large, poorly and pettily drawn red arrow is scrawled over the both of them — and a conversation thread, not unlike those anonymous and childish Topix threads from years ago, bantering about what they could be discussing.

The only difference is the lack of anonymity. Maddock said she found the middle-school antics appalling, and issued a warning to whomever posted it.

Haddock noted that she was unsure why she was even discussed in a social media post about fiscal court in the first place. She said she’s been trying to attend as of late to get up to speed about the area, now a resident the last two years.

She added that the post was more than disconcerting.

Haddock’s statement came minutes after Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander vehemently opened the meeting with a swipe of defense for Lawrence, as he thought the social media post had been about her — and not Maddock.

Regardless of who, or what, the post was about, Alexander called the social media thread “childish” and “uncalled for.”

In other fiscal court activity:

— Magistrate Mike Wright noted that pads have been poured and holes have been augured in for both the baskets and hole signs for the up-and-coming disc golf course at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

— A popular booth during the 46th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival, Alexander said that several Trigg Countians are preparing to switch their trash services from GFL to the newly-created “Trigg Trash.” Veteran owned & operated by Danny Crain, CEO, Alexander said operations for the organization could begin by December 1, with at least two hauling trucks already ordered. Magistrate Alana Baker Dunn said their website, triggtrash.com, crashed over the weekend due to massive traffic. Those seeking service can call (270) 540-1636, or send an email to service@triggtrash.com with questions.

— County Clerk Carmen Finley presented a “clean, full audit” for 2021, delivered from the office of State Auditor Mike Harmon. She noted that election season is understandably keeping her office busy, and that they’ve already issued 128 absentee ballots for this year’s general election. With early voting set for November 3-5 at the EOC, she’s encouraging any and all to participate, as voter turnout came to roughly 20% during the May primaries. Magistrates unanimously approved $9,000 for poll worker pay and training locations in the county.
