Clarksville Man Charged After Hopkinsville Traffic Stop

A Clarksville man was charged with trafficking drugs and possession of a firearm after a traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Hopkinsville Tuesday night.

Hopkinsville Police say 19-year-old Deartis Sykes was stopped for speeding and during the stop admitted to having a firearm in his waistband.

After a check of the gun, it was reportedly found to have been stolen in Nashville and Sykes admitted to being on pretrial diversion on felony charges.

Police say a law enforcement K9 was used to check the vehicle and marijuana was found in a pill bottle in the glove compartment.

He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, failure to produce an insurance card, receiving stolen property, speeding, and trafficking marijuana.
