Fourth Superload To Move Along I-24 Monday Morning

Commuters may want to allow some extra time to reach their destination Monday morning as the fourth of six superloads will be traveling eastbound on Interstate 24 through Lyon, Caldwell and Trigg counties.

District 1 spokesman Keith Todd says the specialized hauler plans to leave the Eddyville Riverport around 7:00 Monday morning. The 480-ton superload will then travel southbound on KY 93 to the Princeton-Eddyville Exit. KY 93 will be closed for about 45 minutes between the Riverport and the I-24 exit to allow the load to reach the interstate.

As the superload makes its way eastbound on I-24 at about 40 miles per hour, traffic will be slowed between Exit 45 and Exit 65 for about 40 minutes starting around 7:45 Monday morning. The superload will then get off the U.S. 68 exit and travel to Martinrea in Hopkinsville.

According to Todd, Edwards Riggins is moving six part of a large auto parts press to the Martinrea facility near Hopkinsville where it will be assembled as part of a plant expansion project.

Additional trips are planned about every other day until all sections of the press are delivered.

Todd says the oversized hauler will be making afternoon return trips from Hopkinsville to the Eddyville Riverport via U.S. 68 and I-24 westbound once it is unloaded at the Martinrea plant.

Motorists need to be alert for slowing traffic and use caution when approaching the police escort and caravan traveling with superload.
