Man Charged After Child Found Roaming With Staple Gun

A Hopkinsville man was charged with criminal abuse after a child was found roaming the neighborhood alone Monday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say the child was found running around in the Linda Drive area and had climbed a chain link fence, crossed the road, and had a staple gun with him. Police say they made contact with 38-year-old Matthew Mitchell on Dusty Lane who stated he thought his brother was watching the child.

This was the second time police had been called for the same child and the Department for Community Based Services had already been contacted about the incident.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal abuse.
