School Board Approves Athletic Apparel Provider For HCCA

The Christian County school board approved a bid proposal Thursday night from BSN Sports to provide high school athletic/extracurricular apparel and related services for Hopkinsville-Christian County Academy.

Director of Finance Jessica Darnell said after she and Athletic Director Kerry Stovall reviewed the bids from three different vendors, they are recommending the board’s approval to partner with BSN Sports for a five-year contract beginning July 1. She noted that some of the biggest things they noted in the bid were the percent off of items that the school district would receive — 30 percent off of Nike footwear and 35 percent off all other Nike apparel. Darnell said the biggest piece of BSN’s proposal is the value-added items. She noted that BSN is experienced in partnering and promoting new high schools and consolidations and has programs within the company that offers a lot of different things to the district.

Stovall said there are several schools in Kentucky that are with BSN along with schools all across the nation. He added the company specializes in starting schools out. He noted one of the things BSN offers touches much more than just athletes.

In addition, Stovall said BSN will provide graduation caps and gowns, band, and cheer uniforms, along with flexibilities for other sports.

Darnell noted the company also offers fan gear with the school getting a percentage of the sales.

In other action during the special called meeting, the board approved the athletic trainer job description for two salary-based positions. Stovall said one of the things they are excited about by adding these two positions is one of the athletic trainers will have an opportunity to teach at Gateway Academy in the Allied Health Pathway teaching sports medicine courses.
