Christian County Class Of 2022 Honored At Packed Stadium Of Champions

On this cool, crisp Friday night, Hopkinsville’s Stadium of Champions once again played host for the 63rd Annual Christian County High School Commencement and its proud Class of 2022.

With those soon to be a thing of the past following inevitable consolidation, these 290 Colonel students seemed to have a bit of swagger. Many of them were bejeweled or bedazzled in some fashion. Several of them took to Instagram when they turned their tassels from right to left, before tossing their mortarboards up into the sky.

Many wore sunglasses, as if their future was so bright they needed shades.

Keisha Benson, a Madisonville native who’s risen in the district as the school’s counselor, described a class of great resolve — capable of handling many of life’s toughest challenges. After all, half of these students’ high school experience came behind a computer and some pajamas, courtesy of a global pandemic.

Benson went even a step further to uplift this class.

Having served the class in this counselor role over the last three years, Benson said she’d be taking this class photo and blowing it up for the wall in her office — because it would remind her of tough times, and even tougher people. Several students wiped tears as she spoke.

Valedictorian for the CCHS Class of 2022 was Luke Austin Luttrell, while salutatorian was Madison Brooke “Pickle” Winkler.

Other “Top 10” students included Autumn Bell, Chloe Craft, Macy Gentry, Riley Hancock, Karsen Lacy, Madison Latham, Jacob Stewart and David Woods, who delivered the invocation.

There were 52 honor graduates in this class, who over their high school career must’ve earned at least 27 credits with a 3.25 GPA. Of those 27, 13 of them had to be in advanced level courses, three in AP or college courses, and two in a foreign language.

Two Colonels, Andrew Morgan and Cynclaire Rogers, were honored as graduates of the Class of 2022 — their chairs left empty on the field. Morgan and Rogers both died tragically in 2019.

Johnathan Ware, escorted by his family, was also individually recognized for his graduation achievement.

Three seniors were honored for being present every day of their senior year: Camden Walter Britton, Paris Arie Buckner and Megan Lacy. Not ironic, all three were honor graduates. Britton had perfect attendance during his junior year, too, and following contact with his former schools in South Carolina, it was determined that he hasn’t missed a single day of school since kindergarten.
